Brigette Hyacinth List of Memorable Qualities of Great Leaders
Brigette Hyacinth, is one of the thought leaders and keynote speakers I’ve had to experience. Though I haven’t been to any of her events and/seminar, but her articles on LinkedIn is among the best writings I find interest in reading. So, today I have decided to share one of my favorite reads of her articles with you.
In her article titled: “A Great Boss is hard to find, difficult to leave, and impossible to forget”, she listed five memorable qualities of great leaders (find list below).
Being a leader is one of most difficult AND rewarding positions in the world. Whether you’re just starting out or you’re an industry veteran, knowing which traits effective leaders should have is an integral part of your success.
Many leadership qualities have been identified that are important to great leaders across time.
But below are five memorable qualities of leaders that seem to stand out as being more important than the others.
“The good news is that each of these leadership traits can be learned, and they must be learned by practice and repetition.”- Brian Tracy
Great leaders find the balance between business foresight, performance, and character. They have vision, courage, integrity, humility and focus along with the ability to plan strategically and catalyze cooperation among their team.
Here are five qualities of memorable leaders:
Integrity & Authenticity go hand in hand. “With integrity, you have nothing to fear, since you have nothing to hide. With integrity, you will do the right thing, so you will have no guilt.” – Zig Ziglar
The core of integrity is truthfulness. Integrity requires that you always tell the truth, to all people, in every situation. Truthfulness is the foundation quality of the trust that is necessary for the success of any business. If leadership is not authentic, then what is it?
Humility. True leaders always aim to serve rather than be served. Being humble makes you more approachable to your followers and allows you to create an environment of open communication and more effective feedback.
Empathy plays a critical role in one’s ability to be a successful leader. It sharpens your “people acumen” and allows leaders to develop and maintain relationships with those they lead. Leaders that possess this trait always make time for people.
Communication Skills – Great leaders are able to communicate their vision in such a way that motivates their team. They are great communicators; quick to listen and slow to speak. They possess high emotional intelligence skills.
Inspirational– Leadership is about inspiring followers. Great leaders exhibit this trait. Words such as “Good work team,” “You are the best”, “I trust your judgement” are at the top of their dictionary.
If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, you are a leader.” – John Quincy Adams
Managers are forgotten but true leaders live on in the hearts and minds of followers.
Good bosses are few and far in between, but if and when you get one, really appreciate them.
